Help with Crafts to Sell?

I’m going to an art show and really need to make some money. I’m fourteen, but am pretty able with art, although I have never sold my art. Do you have any ideas of what would sell really well, how I can decorate my things, and tips. I don’t have very much money to spend on supplies and was thinking of stationary, knitting scarves (is that easy?) and some other things. Please help!

Hmmm… there are hundreds of things you could do, with very little money.

Knitting scarves is a very good idea; I’m not an expert (being a guy), but a young woman friend of mine loves to knit scarves, and once she asked me what colours I liked, and lo and behold, in less than an hour, she had knitted me a gorgeous 6-foot long woolen scarf with a clever combination of around 5 colours… Scarves must be one of the easiest garments to knit, since they don’t have any shape: they’re just flat and straight, with some pretty tassels at each end…

My mother used to sew scrap coloured material (old clothes etc.) into a cube (a small box shape) and fill it with any filler material (foam plastic, Styrofoam, rags) and sew some facial features onto each side of the cube, such as eyes, nose, mouth, using buttons, rags etc., and hang it by a thread from the ceiling; they’re great for kids’ rooms: she called them ‘iggles’, and sold them like hot cakes to neighbours…

An artist friend of mine makes handbags using various fabrics including old ripped jeans, and they look GREAT. She also makes ‘dream catchers’ – a circle of wire (made with any wire from, for example, coat hangers – just don’t tell your Mum where you got the wire from!!) of about 20 cm diameter with woolen or cotton coloured threads stretched across it in an attractive pattern, and a few threads and beads hanging from the edges. You can hang it on a door or a window or a wall.

And with some good quality string and wire and various types of beads or dried seeds, of course, you can make imaginative necklaces, bracelets and earrings.

Some examples of locally handcrafted handbags, dream catchers and necklaces/earrings, to give you some ideas:
